  • Poor Kadie

Poor K.d. is in full blown "season".. that's the vets word... she is in "heat" to me... I have never been around a female cat in heat... we had BitsKitty. neutered at 6 months.. so I never seen her like this...

she just Howls..and meows. just doesn't know whats going on.. rubbing her face ,,scent marking everything and everybody.. and then howls some more...

thank heavens it warmed up enough I can put her on the front porch. ,(enclosed, has her cat tower and blankets but no real heat out there).. but I can't take too much of that howling..
she slept most of the night . then at 3;30 she started ... and got escorted to the porch..

question . how long does this go on?.... she is not scheduled for spaying until Feb 19... so I'm hoping this doesn't go on until them!

Good thing the porch is enclosed, Maye. Both her howling and scent will be attracting the tomcats that may be loose in the neighborhood. I'd put my cat outdoors out once when she was in heat, next thing I knew she was bringing her kittens inside.
When my mostly-Siamese cat went through it, she sounded like a real child crying.

Aunt Maye, it differs with each cat. Ebil would stop for short periods in between but once she started it was almost constant, or at least it seemed that way. That is the reason we got her fixed, not that we were afraid that she would get out and get herself "in trouble" but because we couldn't deal with the constant howling.

Like Jo said this will call any tom cat within miles to come visit and they will mark around your house trying to scare each other away. And they will fight and call to her which will make her call to them more.

Pray she is like my sisters cat, it would come in for one week, when she didn't get bred she would go back out for 3 weeks.

Never had a female cat, only males...I like cats, but I don't want a 'needy' cat that wants to be on top of me all the time, males seem to be a bit more independent, or at least the ones I have had are..it has to be on their terms whether you get to pet them or not..LOL I feel for you with the howling these two do it sometimes even though they are fixed they still are bothered by outside cats. Good luck Maye.

I am still kind of ticked off that the vet was "so busy".. she could have offered me the choice of leaving her over night or bringing home.. another week of this howling and I may call them ,, or another vet.. if its only a week , she has about 5 days to go... her neutering appt is Feb 19.. a lot of days to howl if she don't go out of heat....
this morning I have been playing with toy where she has to run, jump ,chasing this fuzzy tail thing tied to stick .. that I drag or wiggle ... hope to wear her out.. maybe get her to sleep for couple hours. but I sure as heck am not doing this in the middle of the night..

so far, she seems to be a cuddler only on her terms.. which is fine..

Aunt Maye, Grampy used to rub a little powdered alm on the animals privates when they were in heat (both dogs and cats) can't remember if it was to stop the yowling or just to stop the smell from getting to the males.

For now, Monday,, Kadie seems to be out of heat....at least temporarily. back to playing normally...

I wonder what the alum was for?.... Kadie kept cleaning herself and she sure wouldn't do that with alum on her bum....

I just want to get the permanent fix done!.

I can't remember if it was to numb that area or just to mask the scent from the males.

got to wondering how there are so many kittens born when it seems the sex part for cats seems so brutal. I did know that the male bites the females neck and has to hold on during the actual act, Grampy used to make his cat that came down to the house from the barn a birth control collar. What I didn't know was that the male has barbs on his part to keep position until mating is done.
