  • What vac brand do you use?

    I need a new vac!

I just vac'd the living room, had to go over the rug 6 times.

Started to vac in the bedroom, and it is vomiting dust and debris on that dark carpet. I had emptied the dirt collection container last time, and double-checking it, it is empty. The vac is a Bissell bag less WindTunnel. It is heavy, and I am wondering if there is a lighter weight vac that will work well on floors and carpet???

We have a Bissell Pet Hair Elemanator. It has a "static bar" on it to help with the pet hair, I swear everytime I vaccum I get enough hair to make another small animal When our old vaccum died Kenny went on line and researched and decided that this was our best option (and we had the extra money for it). I was in the middle of vaccuming when the old one bit the dust, we went the next day and got this one, came home put it together and started again, Had to empty the dust thing 3 times just going over what I had already done, and it has a large dust cup. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is heavy. The furnature attachment on it even has a small beater bar instead of just a brush. There is also an attachment that says you can vaccum the pets with but have never tried it, as when I turn it on both of them take off and hide.

We have the Bissell Powerforce and it has done a good job. Justy don't for get to empty it. I don't really like bagless but Jot bought it so I can't complain.
We also have a Kenmore canister but it weighs a ton and always turns turtle when you drag it around. Bags are very expensive.

Whenever we vac around here we get enough hair ro make another dog, too. We could call it our kennel.
The dogs all run from ours, too, although Sam will let you vacuum him but he doesn't like it a bit.

I have two, three really. Have an Electrolux canister for what I call hard floors (not carpeted) and an up right Hoover for carpets. And for just a touch up I have a cordless Dirt Devil. Mainly use the Dirt Devil now between when the cleaning team comes. The Electrolux and Hoover are at least 25 years old and still going strong.

My Mom had a Rainbow for years, I hated it. If you don't know what a Rainbow is, it doesn't have a bag but you fill the canister with water so that the dust and dirt don't return to the air. My problem with it was that if you were in the middle of vaccuming and company showed up you couldn't just put it away but had to take the time to empty it, wash and dry the cannister or it would rust . Our house was like Grand Central Station in those days, you never knew who or how many were going to show up and how long they would stay.

My daughter, Joyce (Birdie) sold rainbows for a while. I didn't buy one although a friend of mine did. I used it for her once when she was laid up. Glad I didn't buy one.

My daughter Julie loved the rainbow, but her sisters borrowed stand hated it.

Daughter Bon wants to get the Dyson. I don't believe all I see on TV. The Dyson has a very good on-line rating, even for a refurbished one which is much cheaper. I told her it costs only $219 (compared to $300-$600) at Overstock.com?

I have tried Consumer's Reports on-line. We subscribe to the magazine, but it will cost $19/year to check out updated ratings at their site. I refuse to pay their additional prices, it is like their own scam.

E says we will try before we buy.
