  • Sunday ~ ~ July 16

    Good Morning, Friends.

Well, I went to bed at 1:30 and woke up at 3:30. Don't know why I'm not tired. I guess that will come later.

Have a squash casserole ready for the oven to take to church. Squash season around here. So many gifts from so many people. LOL While I was at it, I fried a lb of bacon for John. He eats one piece per day. I do NOT like bacon and especially dislike the smell it leaves, but if he wants it, we do it.

Nothing much going on. After a pretty rough week, John really perked up yesterday. Nephew, his helper, and John had to prime the pump for the troughs, and it took forever, but John stayed with it and told them what to do. Helper used the weed eater around the yard. I watched from inside. Ha!

Paula, I have tried so many Mickie recipes over the years that I don't have a favorite, but I will try to dig up something I have saved and add to the post.

She sent me so many sweet things over the years, but the one thing I have treasured is the box of candelabra bulbs that I could not find anywhere. It was wrapped so cute that I just had to save the box.

Well, I had better get something useful done before we leave. Love to Everyone.

Good Morning, well actually for me a bad morning, LOL I was attacked by some really bad acid reflux and ended up getting pretty darn sick and throwing up a bunch of times, my cat scan shows I already have pneumonia and after last night aspirated pneumonia got a whole lot worse, started running a temp...so got a pillow and went to the couch, took some Tylenol and found me a warm wooly blanket to cover up in and got some sleep. Hate how quickly the reflux can change things, but I soldier on and take my Tyenol, pretty sure the Dr. will call me tomorrow...I know my results already as I am connected to the hospital website that lets you see your records, test results, etc.

So not much going to happen for me today, rest on the couch...my ribs hurt...

Have a good day the sun is coming out that is always a big plus...

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, and leave the rest to God

    Good morning.

LB, I'm glad to hear that John is feeling better.

Yesterday, we were surprised to get a bit of rain in the late morning; then last night it rained from 9:30 til ?????, the wee hours I guess. The block fence is really dark with the moisture. The weather people juggled the forecast again, so suddenly today & tomorrow we have 50% chance of rain. I won't even look at the humidity scale, but I can definitely feel it.
The monsoon rains have the high temps in the low/mid 90's, at least til we leave. But WA will be in the 70's & 80's, and a nice break from this heat I think.
I have a haircut appointment on Tuesday afternoon. We leave the next day. Am I anxious, or what.

After going to bed last evening, I woke at 11:30 then again at 4a. Didn't get back to sleep, so here I am. E was awake at 4......I don't know if one of us wakes the other, but he manages to get back to sleep. I don't mind...I get some "Me Time" til 8 or 9a.

Paula, Mickie had so many recipes, and I know I tried a number of them. They're all good and I don't have a favorite. But I'll look in my recipes also and see if I can come up with one.

Well, nothing newsworthy here. So I'll just wish you all a very good day today! ☀️

Oh, no, Sharon! Hope you get a good, healing sleep. I'm sorry to hear how awfully bad you're feeling. Hope you're over it quickly.

Sharon, how miserable. Take care and rest. Nothing going on here today. Sierra is off but I have no idea how long she will be around today...her dad is working but wants to grill when he gets home so need to come up with some side dishes. Had a long conversation with my sister yesterday and have a store list of things to bring Wednesday so need to grocery shop. Jon wants to go to the river to visit a friends produce barn then ride the ferry across and eat lunch out. Sierra is off and said she would join us so that sounds like a pleasant day. That leaves Tuesday to shop and pack for me since I want to leave early Wednesday just after St. Louis rush hour traffic and before the heat builds on the highway. Elaine good to hear John is feeling better, probably enjoyed his day in the yard. Jo, my sleep seems to run in cycles and right now I am dead to the world at night but anytime it will go back to 2 or 3 hours a night. No matter what time I go to bed it is always the same wake up hour every morning. Sunny and hot today with a blistering week coming up. Hope the rain stays away the entire week and lets us have sun, sun, sun. Have a great Sunday and hope you get whatever weather you want today!!

Good morning and it is a warm start, but sunny and quiet. During Fair the town is just quieter as everyone seems to be out at the fairgrounds and staying late, so sleeping in. When I went to Walmart with my mother to buy replacement items that died when her power went out, there were so few in the store it was hard to believe it was Saturday.
Elaine, have you found any good ways to get rid of cooking smells you don't like? I am sure there will be a box of vegetables for people to take home at church today. You are right: zucchini season is upon us. One thing Ido not buy at the Farmer's market because I know all I have to do is ask if anyone has any zucchini to sell and they all rush to give it to you. I always share back with anything I back with it. I also use it in soup, so freeze thick slices for when I want to make the diet soup (which I add meat to).
Church this morning and then not sure the day will bring. Becky set up my mom's tv for her yesterday and we will probably go over there for a visit, but not sure what else.
Maxie, the trip across the river on the ferry sounds fun and relaxing. If it is like our river, it is about 10-15 degrees cooler on the water. It is supposed to be hot today, over 105, but not as hot as when it is over 110. That is when it feels like the oils in your skin are sizzling!
Well, I need to finish getting ready, friends.
No pressure on the recipes; I was feeling nostalgic and missing the lost contact.
Love you all! Have a good day!

            Good Afternoon all!

Yesterday was semi-productive. I just ran out of energy. I got 4 kinds of cookies baked off, but 3 of them still need finishing touches. Another day. Read & napped a good portion of the afternoon. Finally got some energy and finished up the laundry and made dinner. Had my mouth all set to have leftover salad with our spaghetti and when I dug in, it looked slimy. Here Cork took it to work the day before & put dressing on it all. YUCK!!!! Just pitched it. I HATE slimy salad.

This morning was church & SS. Kathy was SUPPOSE to have Blaise for the day after SS. She decided she wanted to come out here instead and hang with him. Great. I hadn't planned on them around. What's she doing? Napping and not paying attention to Blaise. I took them out for lunch before coming home. But now that they are all going to be here for dinner time, I'm cooking....NOT my plan for the day. Mike will be coming out after he gets off work at 5pm.

I'm hoping to mix up and bake off a couple of easy cookies. Those kind are the base of my cookie trays. Plain on the bottom and then fancy on the top layer. Will fire up the charcoal grill and cook enough for Cork to take leftovers to work for a few days.

It's been about 2 1/2 hrs since Mickie stopped visiting here. I've missed her family stories. My favorite recipe that I make semi-regularly is the cottage cheese bread.

Take care Sharon. You know this stuff can land you in the hospital. Elaine...glad John is starting to feel better. Probably being out with the guys helped. Made him feel useful.

            Have a good one all!
