  • Sunday ~ Dec. 18th

Morning. Hey there Rounders. Beautiful day here. I have been up since 1:30 am. Yep! Don't know why I couldn't go back to sleep.

We put up our tree yesterday evening and it looks really good. It's looking and feeling more like a holiday now. I tried to go shopping yesterday, but forgot it was Saturday. Whew! Busy traffic, busy people everywhere, and I just decided to wait until this week. Everybody goes out on Saturday. What was I thinking?

Today is a relax and do jigsaw puzzle day. It is called 'Father's Christmas Train' and is not easy. Challenge!

    Have a good one.

karlinann - is that all you've got? Ha Ha

Making sandwiches for church so gotta scoot.

Our weather dropped from 75 to 21 yesterday. I had told John I wished a big wind would blow by and rake our yard and that big wind nearly took down our chimney - or at least it sounded like it.
Between that and the ridge vents on the house, it sounded like 10 helicopters around here about midnight. But we are still here this morning, so all is well.

Hope everyone has a good day. Will be back after church.

    Hugs to Everyone.

    Good Morning

Hi Karlinann,, sleeply folks this morning ... Son Mark stops in about 6.30.. and is still here, drinking coffee and chatting...

plans to go to Church. Choir doing special music.. if D. back gets to hurting.. we may slide out early... However temperature is dropping fast.. going from Rain, wet roads to snow flurries. and , I assume, Freezing conditions on road... so may not leave the house... I don't mind the snow. but in our hilly , crooked country roads. I don't like driving on icy ones.

still have wrapping , ( bagging). up C. gifts.. todays's job... an old time neighbor passed away and the viewing is this afternoon only.. .again all depends on the road conditions.. whether we get out. .

    thinking of you all.
Jo G. hope things are getting much better with you..

    see you later.
Take it one Day , one step, at a time.. cause that's all we really have.

karliann I am not a fan of shopping and doing it on a Sat. would not be fun...

Elaine, 75 down to 21, now that is one heck of a drop...it is 22 here this morning and very nasty out on the roads, black ice, lots of accidents..loved your description Elaine.
Maye, stay in, better safe than sorry.

Last night was hubby's last work Christmas party, the band was really good, the food exquisite..more shrimp than a person could eat, wings, beef wellington, brussel sprouts, spring rolls, sliced smoked turkey, sliced beef tenderloin, lots of other foods I can't remember, miniature cheesecakes, petit fours, lots of chesses, fruit and dips, sushi bar. Coming home afterwards was slow and steady, the roads turned to a sheet of ice...

A little history here, my husbands biological Father gave up his rights to hubby and his brother when hubby was 8 yrs. old, he remembers a lot of things about his life then, but just like that he didn't have a Father, Grandmother, etc. and then his Mom had remarried when all of this had taken place so he legally adopted the two boys....later on in life when our son was born, his Dad went on a fishing trip and never returned, they went and help search for him only to find out later he had taken up with another woman, so once again another Father out of his life...his biological Father did look him up after we were married, hubby went to see him and his Father wanted him to know that he had always followed what they were doing, knew when he graduated high school and college, knew he got married and had children, wanted to tell him he did what he thought best, was tired of the fighting and arguing with his Mother so he gave up his rights thought it best...that made hubby feel so much better, it had always bothered him, he had memories...well to his other Father yes he sees him once a year, does call him every now and again, he is not in good health, trouble being, his Mom, she thinks that hubby should turn his back on him, we can't let anyone know we talk to them or visit them...well yesterday she told hubby that she saw in the paper that his biological Father had passed away and she said it did not mention hubby or his brother as children, and then she proceeded to say she could never understand how a man could just walk away from his children like he did...upset hubby pretty bad but being the nice person he is he never tells her how he really feels or what his biological Father told him.....why did she feel the need to add he insult to the conversation, just telling him he had passed away would have been enough...grrrrr that woman really gets to me, she is so selfish and hateful...but hubby would do anything for her..except stand up to her and tell her how he really feels..so I felt really bad for him, I told him it was okay to mourn the death of his biological Father who went on to marry and be with the same woman for 45 years and have another family.

Okay my rant for the day, LOL

Have to get busy and get his place figured out, since all the stuff with my cat I have neglected so many things and this week is the week I have to get it done...what a mess I have..Have a great day one and all...and be careful if you go out..

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, and leave the rest to God

And I am sure you already said this, but remind him his bio father did not write the obit. the second wife and family did. His father let him know how he felt and why he did what he did...
        My heartfelt condolence to Doug.

        Good morning, everyone.
It's 32° right now, and will be reaching for 62° today. That's cold for us. We did have 50° a few days ago, so I won't complain. But I don't think I'll go outside for the newspaper today, E can bring it in later. It sounds a bit windy out there.

Thanks, Maye....yes things are a bit better for me today. Still sore, but able to get up on my own. Hoping my draining will stop, so I'm afraid to put much strain on those muscles yet. Am again walking on my own, though E keeps my walker and cane both within my reach. I even made grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch yesterday. Again he bought the wrong brand of cheese (I don't like the texture) but he will eat most anything. I just won't complain, as he really tries - but when asked, I will give him my opinion.
And thank you to all for your continuing moral support. It means a lot.

We have no plans for today. Everything got done by checks, so no shopping. No decorations up this year. Neither of us have the extra energy for it. But that's okay.

Sharon, that Christmas party sounds so great!
Your husband's life story is something else. Bittersweet. I'd say his biological father really did care; other people can be exasperating, though, like his mother.

Hope you all have a great day.

More ice yesterday with a skim of snow but the big weather is the temps...wind chills are single digits with a temp of 6 and even colder tonight. This is like Siberia! Scott sent a text yesterday from Southern Missouri that they were in the 70s under a tornado watch and a winter weather advisory for last night. This weather is something!! We are going to bundle up and stay home! When it gets this cold even the house stays cooler. Did some Christmasy stuff yesterday but then my sister called and we talked for 2 hours. I suppose I am iced in which means it may be ok driving for some people but not for me so have no plans or ideas of what to do today. Sharon sad about your hubbys childhood and then for it to happen around a good time in his life makes it harder. Beth will you and Cori be the only two at home? Company is nice but having your place back is better! Elaine your weather sounds exactly like what Scott experienced yesterday! Jo, you are amazing and a great inspiration for everyone...so lucky to have your E! If I missed anyone, good morning. Plan for the day is to stay warm!

            Good morning Rounders.

There are Christmas miracles!! This is the 4th day in a row that I've checked in. LOL.

Looking outside is deceiving. It's beautifully sunny and bright... not a cloud in the sky, but it is lying to me... It's downright frigid... 4° when I got up, only supposed to get to 22° today. Guess the cold snap that's hitting the nation landed on us here, too.

Ralph and I wondered if they plow the roads here in Gunnison because yesterday we hadn't seen any indication that they do. However, just as I was wrapping things up here on my computer at 10 pm, the plows came by and made several passes. Couldn't mistake that they were plows because I could hear the ice crunching. I'm trying to remember what it was that possessed me to move from warm Las Vegas to central Utah... temporary insanity?

Maye, I read your post from yesterday about your new Kindle. I love mine!! I belong to a couple of free/cheap onliine book sites to get books. You sign up and tell them the genre of books you like, then they send you emails showing your "deals". You can download the books you want. Those sites are Robin Reads Team http://robinreads.com/ and Digital Book Spot www.DigitalBookSpot.com.

Hope everyone has a great day today... stay warm, dry and safe if you travel.

Good morning! The birthday surprise was perfect. She loved the piano ornament on the tree, was happy for the curling iron and then saw her Christmas music on the piano and when I turned on the lights I had put on the top of the piano looked at me and I just nodded...we are too peas in a pod when it comes to gifts and we both got teary eyed and she opened up the piano, hit one key and just started thanking me and thanking me!
Spencer called last night when I was leaving the party saying they had icicles everywhere yesterday, even on the car! this living in the US is giving them tons of new experiences every day!
Still no snow for the boys to use their new sleds, but I figure it will be there soon enough and then they will be out of school and ready for it. Funny, the WA grandkids and Stuart's school have had 3 snow days already! And they don't usually get that much snow...
Today is a normal day at church and then Becky wanted pizza for her birthday food and a gingerbread roll cake which just now popped into my head! I better get a move on!
all you wonderful people have a great day.
Jo, keep getting better and stronger and you can either take a ride to see lights and always look online or tv to see the other sights of the season. You are the best decoration E could have in his life and I am sure he tells you that!
Sharon, what a feast!!! Some of those things I have never eaten or seen in real life (beef Wellington), But I am sorry it all had the sadness of Doug's father passing. Whatever is the reason for his mother's very poor attitude and actions, it isn't on him. Hugs to you both.
Happy Sunday and ONe Week till Christmas!

I have about 2 minutes to say good morning and then it will have to change to good afternoon! I slept in this morning and then got up and did some chores around the house and finally had my cup of coffee a little while ago. Now I am good to go at least for a little while.

Aiken is experiencing the same kind of temperature drops as you are, Elaine. It is very frustrating because we never know how to dress. Boffler, I agree with all of those who said that your husband's biological father loved him and cared about him. I know it's hard, but he shouldn't focus on his mean-spirited mothers comments. She sounds like a piece of work.

🌲 WOW, one week from today will be Christmas! It is hard to imagine how fast this year has gone by.

I did go to Walmart yesterday - Saturday! I was greatly surprised because traffic was light, I got an upfront parking space in the handicap section, I got a motorized cart when I went into Walmart AND I was able to walk in and get my hair done with very little wait time.

I got to my bank and commented on how cute their lunch bag reindeers were. They said they were selling them for $2 a piece and all the proceeds are going to help the flood victims in South Carolina. I bought bags for children of friends of mine. I will try to post a picture of them they are really cute.

I think I will go have lunch and another cup of coffee. I hope everyone has a super Sunday and a safe and healthy one!

I just realized that the Advent wreath candle from the third week of Advent - Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday went out. I hope that's not a message from God. LOL

I hope you were able to go to church to hear the choir comma Janet. I love Christmas music. I am going to mass this evening and, well I don't particularly care for the music comma it will still be good.

those reindeer are cute! I think I will have the school kids make them for the other little kids later this week. They love to help and everybody gets some thing out of it!

Afternoon all!!!! We had to scrap ice off the car before going to church this morning, but the roads were fine.

Yesterday was a busy one. It took me all day just about to put the finishing touches on 5 different kinds of cookies. I was just in slow mode. The "in" cookie right now are the pecan pie cookies. LOL! Just got a call for 5 doz & I was just getting ready to mix them up today, so will just triple the recipe. Actually cooked two different meals for dinner last night, so I shouldn't have to cook for a couple of days. Made tuna noodle casserole the other night just for me because I was in the mood for it & haven't had it in years. YUM! Had it for lunch today.

Went to church & SS this morning. Now to find my energy and start mixing up more cookie dough. I'm making 6 more kinds. Some for the first time & some to replenish my stock in the freezer. Later this week I'll be making lots of trays. Sue is coming Tues to help me. I hope to get most of the doughs baked off tomorrow & then Tue we'll ice them. We still don't have a tree. Saw a place on the way home this morning that has live trees for $20. Send Corky there later. I don't have to have a picture perfect tree. I find it a challenge to make a semi-OK tree look pretty. Expecting perfect is stressful & that's one stress I never grabbed onto.

Sharon....how's Rufus? The party sounded fabulous. Was it at a country club?

It just warms my heart to see our "lost" family. I DO believe in Christmas miracles Judy and I count you among them. Now where is Pat?

              Have a good one all!

I LOVE the simple, straight-from-the-heart and filled with the spirit of Christmas tree that Charlie Brown is so famous for.

I can truly say that this "Christmas miracle" is glad to be back with the family. Thanks for letting the prodigal daughter return.

Again, I am late in the day. I have become slow in the mornings....bad habit. Didn't go to church today as we have icy roads and you can't count on cell service in the hills and hllars down here. Have veen lazy all day....even did hamburger helper fior dinner. Can't be much lazier! Hope you are all safe inside and staying cozy!
