  • do you line your dresser drawers?

If so... why? I had someone ask me this today ... and I felt I couldn't give a good answer as to why people line their dresser drawers.
Hey it is I, noggie, nogs, noggins, aka Beverly

    Not any more.

I think the liner papers just look pretty, in case anyone cares.
My mom always lined them with newspapers.

I don't line the dresser drawers (I do have some lovely lavender soaps that I put into the underwear drawer)-- only line the kitchen utensil drawers and the cupboard shelves.
Growing older is a privilege denied to many.

My great-aunt traveled the world in the 40's and 50's with my great-uncle, who was a drilling expert. She collected whatever caught her attention, and since she loved scarves as an accessory, she had many. Some of those are now lining my dresser drawers, his are in Michael's.

For my part, all kitchen shelves should be lined, and I change the non-sticky liner about every two years, though it gets washed more frequently.

Simple answer. No. I just don't see any reason for it.

Then there is my late SIL and I could understand her doing it. She's the only person I ever met who actually decorated the interior of her closets. Paint, paper, etc. and they were really beautiful. I'm just not anal enough to do that.

No, see no reason. I think the purpose for it was to add another layer of protection for clothes incase bugs got into the wood, the better dressers were made of better wood or had a cedar lining, the stuff most people could afford were made of the cheaper wood and they hadn't started "treating" it. Today even the "cheap" stuff is treated so don't have to worry about opening your drawer and finding termites have eaten away the wood and left the rements on your clothing.

Yes I do and it stays in for years. Paper in the dresser drawers, but a heavy ridged plastic I buy in rolls for the kitchen shelves. It can be washed and and hung out to dry when it gets really dirty or sticky. Otherwise just wipe them down.

But closet shelves are not lined.

No, my bedroom set was designed by youngest son when he worked for a furniture co that made cedar furniture. My set is made of poplar wood, but the drawers are cedar lined.I can remember as a child my mom lined hers with newspaper too.

This question got me. Some of mine are lined (with leftover wallpapers) and some are not. Never realized that about myself.

I wish I had lined my pantry shelves, since they really take a beating and definitely need cleaning and repainting.

Elaine, if you can get a roll of this ridged plastic shelving use that. I know ACE carries it. It is tough, easy to clean, and will last for years.
