  • Regina's Bird Sanctuary

Regina and Eden found a robin today. It had run into a window, a car, another robin with a harder head...something. It was dazed and confused. So they brought it back with them so that they could nurse it back to health. They even dug up some worms for it, which it ignored as only a frightened, concussed bird can.

They were going to keep it outside with a cage over it to keep it safe from predators. Until I told Regina about the storms on the way.

Penelope the Robin is now safely tucked away in a large, unused fish tank in our basement. I'm told that she has left the little grass nest I built for her (not my idea) in an old tangerine crate and has migrated to the rather large leafy vine thing that used to be on our kitchen counter until about 6:30pm this evening.

How wonderful..... remember doing that same thing with a batch of babies who fell out of their nest when my children were very young. We put them in a small child swimming pool in our garage....opened the door in the a.m. and their Mom came and fed them...she eventually led them out of the garage and they all flew away.

Hope the bird get well and can fly away again...
Money can't buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with.

Oh my! First it baby birds - then what? Puppies, kittens? The list is endless.

Nice to have creature lovers in your home.

What a wonderful experience for Eden. And probably Mom and Dad too.

How sweet. It's good to get Eden used to critters. Maybe she won't be afraid of snakes and spiders as she gets older. But then again, I'm a country girl and I like snakes and spiders.

Wonderful experience...yeah...that's exactly what I thought when Regina told me about it yesterday evening as I was coming home from work. Almost exactly. I didn't use the word "wonderful," though. The word that came to my mind was several letters shorter.

Actually, Penelope has rejoined her feathered relatives. Oh oh. Story time. Gotta run!

Remember when my youngest found a baby bird that wasn't even feathered out, the neighbor man (being a jokester) told her that she was gonna have to chew up the worms for it I knew there wasn't much hope but we dug up worms, mashed them up and tried feeding it with a pair of tweezers, also tried sugar water with an eye dropper but it was just to small to survive, so poor "tweets" got buried in the back yard.

I've never tried raising a baby bird. I did raise this onery cat of mine on a bottle. Probaby won't ever do it again as its a very demanding job. However, I have one beautiful cat now that thinks I hung the moon, even if she is a mountain climbing fluff of mischieviousness.
Good friends are like diamonds...precious and rare.

Jo have raised several cats on bottles, raised a baby racoon and tried to raise a oppossum, which my Mother found so funny. I am so tender hearted that if it is a "baby" I have to try to save it. The dogs had killed the momma possum in the yard and wouldn't you know it I could see the baby still alive moving around in the pouch
