  • Sunday ~ April 30

    Good Morning

Horrendous evening here. 3 tornadoes touched down about 30 miles from us. Last count 5 dead and over 50 injured. We stayed glue to computer through the storm while watching baseball on TV.

Ended up making a White Texas Sheet Cake and nephew and helper picked up the limb and worked on the lawnmower. Yay!

Well very cool this morning so we will be pulling out coats for church. Air conditioner on last night and heat this morning. ???

Hope all is well with everyone. Hugs ~ ~ ~

Good morning....I have yet to see my parents and nieces and our plans of church and lunch out have changed. I got a text early yesterday from mom that apparently my oldest niece had either eaten something that didn't agree or had a touch of the flu and had been throwing up. This morning its been 24 since she threw up but we adults decided to keep the girls home this morning let them sleep....she will want to go to her small group Bible Study tonight. My mom tried to encourage me to go ahead to my small group...but I don't have a ride and I don't have any food prepared so I am going back to sleep...

They will come here some time today...we will get the groceries for our suppers this week...

Reagan and I might go to the movies because she is grounded from her electronic devices and can only watch tv if some one is willing to watch with her....apparently has several more weeks of grounding...she and I may go to the libary this week if she wants to go.

I didn't sleep well last night...cori was vocal about the storms and I was nervous...when she did sleep it was right in the middle of the bed.

      Good morning,
Oh my gosh, Elaine. Three tornados!!! I'm glad they didn't reach you. No wonder the weather's so wacky there!
I don't even want to think of the destruction left in their wakes.

We're having afternoon winds a lot lately, some pretty strong, most just a nuisance. Our temps are back in the 80's for a couple of days. Tuesday it'll start in the 90's again. 🌵
Yesterday was a lost cause for us. We accomplished nothing! We both got lost in our books. I did get inspired to make a nice supper.....pork chops with cherries, sliced potatoes with onion, and sweet corn. E raved on how good it was. Well, it was a bit different from the usual fare. The cherry topping made the difference.

So, that's about all my news this morning.
Have a god day today. ☀️

Elaine, stopped sending that rain up here! Our rain gauge has 5.5 inches with more to come today. Andrew's mom called last night to see if we had power because they had been without for 4 hours since the wind/tornado went through. Jon had called to tell me a tornado warning was out and to get to the basement. He was on the highway under an overpass and said he had never seen a car shake like his did...the entire highway had come to a stop. We do not know if it was straight line winds or a tornado yesterday. It totally missed where we are and for once I was very happy living in this particular place and not a half mile in either direction! How can so much rain continue to fall? Bring on some heat and drought..I am ready! it is dark and gloomy and rainy but I have power and internet so could be worse. Nothing doing today since we are all consumed with this weather and the surrounding rivers flooding. I will bet the construction at the end of this road will be unpassable. Hockey this afternoon. Another miserable day from here...those of you with sun go out and soak some up for us stuck in this rain. Sorry about your plans changing Beth.. Jo never heard of cherries and pork chops but it sounds good! Not sure I have seen cherries in the stores yet. Elaine, enough with the rain!!

maxie, I bet it can be done with dried cherries..I have seen them listed in a number of my crockpot recipes, but haven't tried them. I buy them at Costco and mix into granola for the kids.

Wow! Elaine, that is terrible about the deaths and damage the tornadoes did. I am thankful you guys are ok, and that maxie still has power amid all her storms! And Beth! You guys take care (I know you do, but it helps me to say it) and be safe!
the funeral salad turned out great!
BUT, at 1 minute to the starting time there was still no organist and I asked the Bishop, You sure Dolly is coming? I didn't even wait for an answer and pulled out my phone and started calling her. Yep! she answered and said no one had asked her to play....And she had a client who had just arrived for a therapy session and....my heart just started pumping away!
So, we sang without the organ or anything. I can't spell that word and apparently, neither can my autocorrect. Remember I said it was How Great Thou Art and I was worried about getting emotional? Well, I was too nervous about singing without the music accompaniment and didn't even think about crying. It all turned out very well, and the closing hymn,Abide With Me went really well, too. I just had to calm myself down and remember the times I had sung at graveside services and it wasn't about me, anyway...that thought always gets me back in the right frame of mind.
I went to a friend's moving sale and bought two Adirondak chairs for our yard. They are moving to the Richmond, Va. area where he is joining a law firm. Ther just isn't enough business for all the lawyers around her, he said.
I am taking my mom to the airport today. She will get to see both new babies in Florida. The Utah niece and her husband are visiting with their baby, Chloe, and the other sister had a baby in December and this will be my mother's first real visit. We have Face Timed with the Utah baby. She was born with some health issues and they thought she had a complete hearing loss, but a surgery and some tubes in her ears and now hearing aids, have given her some hearing. We are so beyond thankful for that.
I have gone on too long, but I enjoy sitting here with you all.
Oh, maxie, my son and his family went to an Orioles game and said the field is one of the best. I am not sure how they rate ballparks, do you? They played Boston and won, so the boys were really happy. He has taken them to a football game, too. They are loving getting into the whole American sports experience!
I really will stop now. If I could send some of this sunshine your way I would. for now, just sending the warmest wishes for a safe, wonderful day to you all.

Maxi & Paula, cherry jam/preserves or cherry pie filling will do the trick, too.

Hello! It's been a couple days.

Been busy in the kitchen....surprise, surprise. Yesterday morning was prep day for City Rescue Mission...a mens homeless shelter. Made up stuffed peppers, mashed potatoes, carrots & corn. They'll also be taking homemade apple sauce and dessert leftover from the last couple events that we froze. Stopped at a rummage sale on the way home and scored 2 sets of dessert plates. You know, they ones they use to have back in the 60's & 70's. I like creating pretty plates of cookies on them for customers & as gifts. Came home & then the 3 of us checked out a few more garage sales. At the one I got 6 plastic milk crates for $.50 each. They are so sturdy and stack nicely.

Came home and took a nap. Just no energy. It was so dreary. Texted a friend that was up from SC to see if we were going to get together. She came for dinner and cut our hair afterwards. It was a nice visit.

This morning we went to church & SS. The peppers were put in the oven at 8am and by the end of church the downstairs was smelling really good. There is another group taking them up to the Mission. I've never gone. I've always just done the shopping & cooking end of it. Last evening I got an order for 6 doz sugar cookies for tomorrow afternoon, so last night I got the dough mixed up before I went to bed so it would be nice & chilled today. I'm now baking the cookies off. Also made potato salad for tonight's card game at my SIL Mom's place. Also taking a plate of cookies.

Kathy is supposedly coming up to bring Blaise's BD present since she'll be working every day the next 5 weeks...supposedly. Want to place bets on how many days she calls off sick?

            Have a good one all!
