Morning all

Got the ingredients in the bread machine going for my King Cake for the annual Mardi Gras party. But I won't be staying for the parade. Just not feeling it this year. Too much hassle and too large of a crowd for me.

Instead, Erin has an appt. to get her hair done at noon - and now she wants it Platinum Blonde - so I agreed to it. Better than purple, eh?

Warm here yesterday and beautiful - mid 60's in the afternoon. Supposed to be again today also. Sorry Aunt Maye If it makes you feel better, we will be in the 30's again by tomorrow night.

Time to drink coffee and get the filling ingredients together.

SO windy here. When the wind hits these ridge row vents, it sounds like a jet taking off. Very unnerving.

Gotta dream up something for church. Better head to the pantry.

Elaine - a King Cake isn't a "cake" - it's more or less a giant Danish made from sweet yeast dough.

Good morning....my parents are here visiting...yesterday evening was really nice...not sure what today will bring...we are supposed to go shopping and do some stuff this morning...I was totally looking forward to it...now I am not sure...not everyone is in a great mood...and I didn't sleep well last night...will probably try for one more hour of sleep then see how I feel.

Today will be 76° & sunny; tomorrow, 74° & very windy. Monday will bring a high of only 50° with rain, and night temps back in the 20's. The weather has never been crazier. I had planned working in the garden today, but tomorrow's winds will undo everything.....speaking from experience. So I'll forget the garden for another week.
I've other chores I can deal with.
So today I'll bake banana cupcakes. And do other chores.

Pat, I've never had King Cake. Some recipes for it are actually cake. I was surprised when you said Danish. My old friend from LA mentioned putting the charms in the "batter", so she made cake. But I won't argue which is right or wrong. Maybe it's a matter of taste. I would prefer the sweet bread, I think.

My tummy is acting up this morning, so I guess I'll finish my tea and go back to bed for a while. Relaxing head to toe often helps.

Good Morning! The SUN IS SHINING! Still bitter cold though.

Yesterday was productive, but I just didn't feel great all day....head kind of fuzzy. Got some cleaning done & made 2 big pots of soup....chili and chicken barley. YUM!!! Finally started feeling good after dinner...that's some good chili!

Not sure what today will bring. Currently the DISH guy is here installing new service. We gave our local phone company a chance but when the bill came in last week with a new $13 charge for the TV, that was the final straw. We've had DISH service almost 19 yrs and have had very few problems. They are currently running a deal for $50 guaranteed for 3 yrs, so that sold me. No more surprise $13 increases. Corky is working on replacing some of the water lines, so the water is shut off....lots of pots & containers with water in them right now. Not sure what Blaise & I will do. Maybe after the DISH guy leaves we'll take some soup to Aunt J and to my Mom. Need to stop & get some tomato juice so I can make goulash tomorrow.

BTW....Aunt J....I just ate the rest of that pasta dish that Karen shared with you & it tastes WAY better when you first make it....I promise.

The other day when I delivered the pies & cake to the restaurant, I was talking with the manager. She was talking about King cake and the baby. All she could see is some crazy customer complaining that there was a baby in their cake & demand a comp or someone bite on it or swallow it, and sue them. NORTHERN'S!!!! Bunch of complainers & victims anymore. Though I'm sure the South has it's fair share too, but probably not when it comes to King cake.

Good morning everyone.

The sun is shining and begging for me to come out. Yesterday afternoon was so warm that I bypassed the capris and went straight to shorts. Starting out today with the capris as I'm thinking about going to the mall for a bit. Not that I'm looking to buy anything, but to just "window shop".

May have lunch out and then stop by the beach for a look at the pretty blue water. The wind seems to be calm, so the water should look like a mirror out there.

Perfectly quiet day here. No kids at all and meatloaf for supper. These darn kids hate meatloaf and their dad has been asking for it. Our old appliances were picked up last night so that is another job taken care of. Seems like forever since it has been so quiet so I am going to sit around and enjoy it. Kitchen floor needs mopping but that will lead to something else needing done so may put it on the back burner. Going to be 60+ this weekend! Something is beeping in Andrew's bedroom so better see what that is. Even when he is gone he is making noise!

Good morning, all. another rainy day in sunny Ca and I'm loving it. Glad we get a break between rains so we can catch a little sun before it starts again.

Nothing much on my schedule for today. May do laundry or wait until tomorrow. If the rain stops later I may go do it, otherwise it will be tomorrow.

Did nothing yesterday except read my book started it Thursday and finished it by last evening. Was planning to make Chinese Chestnut chicken (not water chestnuts) but was so lazy I put the chicken back into the fridge.

About all for now. Think I will go have a bite of breakfast.

Good sunny morning here! Lots going on with errands, laundry, grocery shopping, baking and a handyman working on my doors ( which means a chihuahua is barking).
Donna, don't give anyone the baby! Or tie one on each fork when served a piece...
I have never had it, but all the ones I have seen offered online and in recipes are yeast dough based.
Becky is making a cookies and cream swirl brownies for the shelter. One dog is already at the groomers and I have just finished putting away the groceries and needed an RT break.
Jostoy, enjoy those cute capris and shorts for me. I have given away all my favorite ones from Quacker Factory since losing weight. Now I will have fun buying new ones when the weather and stores permit.

What are you all talking about not putting a baby in the cake. I assume you are talking about charms. Seems to me one could swallow a charm or break a tooth, unless they are soft and edible. They made a King cake where I was before in Arizona and I can't remember if it was cake or Danish dough. Maybe I didn't even eat I piece. I just remember there were different color sprinkles on top.

There is a health fair going on down stairs and I got lots of Information on what I may need at some future time. Just hope it'll be a very long time until needed.

Nice day out. Did not go for my walk due to going to the health fair.

To keep someone from swallowing the charms, somebody said she wrapped each charm in foil. So when they get to the foil, they just pull out the foil w/charm and safely enjoy the cake.
The one cake I saw was a Bundt cake in Mardi Gras colors, but mostly deep purple. I didn't have any, but it didn't look very appetizing.

E is washing up my pans and bakeware. Such a nice guy! So the banana cupcakes I made are mostly for him. I frosted all but one....I like mine plain.

Today I had 2 naps, one in bed and one in my chair. I may slip another one in yet.
Am hurting quite a bit this afternoon. Only 3 more days til I see the Gastro doc, and she can figure this out for me.

sorry to be absent.. did not get much rest.. and now that runny nose cold is back trying to take me down.. not going to happen!.. been fighting it all day.. D. is doing good.. the Home health care stopped in and checked his vitals . I see him improving .. hes needing less pain med. .. eating a little more.. we had some visitors today.. relatives. Donna brought me goodies!!!.. ah,, You all should have a niece like her!!!!.

hopefully get back to normal soon.. but glad D. is home and on the mend... that was the longest January in my life...
