Hi there. I'm almost finished with my book and it has been spellbinding.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. I made Grilled Chicken Salad, and homemade French Onion Soup and topped it with garlic croutons and Cheddar Cheese. OMG was that delicious! For dessert: Fresh Nectarines.

Today is laundry and whatever else I can get into. I've been contemplating painting the hallway. We'll see. Have a splendid day.

    Hello!,

Did you watch the Oscars? Would not have missed Lady Gaga for the world. Wow!

The only news here is the weather. It rained all day yesterday, and the temp is now 32 and expecting to drop. Glad we don't need to leave the house.

Looks like more comfort food is on the menu. Can a cake be considered comforting?

Have a very good day, Everyone.

      good morning

Elaine ,Donna's Carrot cake would be called comfort food for me!. and chili of some sort today.... ... my plan was to put in a shoulder roast in my new crockpot and leave it cook all night....except, I forgot to put it on last night.... .. and No I missed the Oscars , on purpose. but wish I would have seen Gaga.. I have a student who adores her...

Karlin.. your lunch sounded delicous... our cold cold weather has us all talking about food.. I guess it's because we are stuck in the house!. (at least I am)

no plans for the day, at least not to leave the house plans... I tentatively have 2 girls lessons early evening .. so it will be more puzzling, reading, and computering.. I sorted thru old papers yesterday . Have two wastepaper bags full. ready to burn.. and I could do more of that kind of sorting.. sure don't need the receipts of old gas, elec.telephone bills.

HI to you all.. keep warm
      HI Paula and Donna.
Take it one Day , one step, at a time.. cause that's all we really have.

Good morning rounders.....been up for quite a long time again....already have spaghetti sauce on stove simmering.... son Matt and family to come over tonight for dinner.... meatball bowl is ready to shape and place on rack in oven....also Italian hot sausage ready for oven cooking as well.....trouble is ....I am hating to see it spatter all over my new beautiful oven...so may lay a sheet of foil over it to prevent that from happening. To cook so many meatballs in a fry pan is something I avoid....works out very well in the oven....sausage too. Usually make at least 30 meatballs....let son take all leftovers home...but I may freeze some today...in case Mike and Leisa can come for a visit soon.

Marianne made a dump cake on Sunday.....plenty of that left...she took a Yellow Cake Mix and dumped apple pie filling in one half and mixed it and cherry pie filling inn the other half. I won't eat it...too much sweet for me....Monica, Dave and Hannah tasted it and loved it.....so will serve it to Matt and family tonight...

Going to be bitter cold againn today.....will this never end....Schools are delayed for 2 hours....not sure how that helps....maybe a degree or two higher in two hours...

I will probably not leave the house today....did make it out for some grocery shopping at the closest grocery store....a locally owned one.....close to home.

I am reading a book too....but am also trying to get some of the too large items taken in.....have several done already.....the new sewing machine is a little more complicated than my old one....but am gettng the hang of it...after Monica came and used it.....easier than it looks.

Sending wishes out to all rounders for a good day....

          Morning all

It's my Monday off - big plans to use up the rest of these bananas and cook a pot roast. Erin stayed the night at her Dad's again last night and he will take her to school this morning. Chris and I removed all the electronics from her room yesterday as she is still on restriction.

I missed Gaga because I was watching Downton Abbey. Priorties, eh? But I was thrilled to see Eddie Redmayne win for Best Actor for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking. I want to see the movie so badly!

Elaine - yes, cake is definitely comfort food. Chris and I went out for lunch to a local cafe yesterday and dessert was included with the meal - I had a piece of yellow cake with peanut butter icing with chocolate chips in it. Oh heavenly days... it was great! Best part of the meal!

I'm off to the kitchen. Y'all have a good 'un!

              Good morning.
Nothing much going on here today.
Suddenly we have rain forecasted. Today 71° and 20% chance of rain, Tomorrow 60° and 50% chance of rain.
Wouldn't you know it, but tomorrow is my busy day...a haircut appointment, and in the evening the lecture on campus.

Yes, cake (whatever flavor you like best) is definitely comfort food. So are cookies. Or puddings.
Pat, your restaurant serves a cake that isn't chocolate? Only Olive Garden here does, that lemony one. And the slices keep getting thinner. Every restaurant has the chocolate (or triple chocolate) lava cake or death-by-chocolate cake, in large servings. So we stop at Safeway on the way home and get the individual white cake, which is perfect for us to share.
              Now I want to bake!

              Have a good day, everyone.

Jo, believe it or not, there wasn't a single chocolate item offered. Maybe they were counting the chocolate chips in the PB frosting?

Good SUNNY Morning! Yesterday was gloomy and we got a bit more snow. School is delayed this morning due to temps below 0.

Yesterday after church we spent cleaning. I thought the house was clean but you can always find more to clean. The house was shown, but we don't know anything...yet. We went to Meijer's to waste our time & picked up our monthly supply of snack food for Blaise. They have a 11/$10 sale about once a month. Now I didn't buy all junk food, but I did buy a good supply of pretzels & some cheese puffs for Blaise. Came home & had leftovers for supper.

I woke early this morning, which was surprising considering I didn't fall asleep until after 1am. But it's been nice getting things done w/o a little one hanging on me. Already have a whole chicken thawing & plan to roast it and have mac salad & baked beans with it. That's comfort food to me. Yes, cake is comfort food too. Waiting on a phone call from my realtor in Bradford...sent her a msg to call me. Plan to go to the gym. Not sure what else I'll get into today. There is ALWAYS laundry.

                  Have a good one all!

School this morning even though wind chills are below zero. Calling school for continued cold is a lot of days out of school around here and they do not do delayed starts...you either have school or it is closed. I have spaghetti sauce in the freezer so may make Sierra a pot of spaghetti for lunch. I love the lemon cake from the Olive Garden! I like lemony anything...matches my sour disposition. Need to run to the post office and have a stack of stuff I could run to Sierra's dad including the new rods for her room. I could hang the curtains today. Nothing new and the cold is getting old.

good dark morning here. I will be o glad when the sun starts showing up sooner.
the Victorian house museum was way more than I expected. The two guides, not in costume or character, which was fine, were so enjoyable. Red Bluff is a small town and anyone who has been here awhile has common friends and interests. It was so interesting to hear about the owners of the home and the donated items. Very little is original to the owners but so many generous people! I just want to tell you about one: an older lady from Pasedena (way down south), donated a huge beautiful pink glass punch bowl set that had a connection to the owners. She did not trust shipping it, so carried it on her lap all the way form Pasedena, driven by her chauffeur! Talk about Driving Miss Daisy!
Oh, one more. When I opened the gate it swungin very slowly, really heavy. As we were leaving, we were told tht when the old jail was torn down for our new one, in 1985, the curator for the museum asked for the old bars! She then had a volunteer use them to make the fence around the yard. Someone else donated the fleur de lis for the decorative top of the fence. The school kids take tours with their classes, but I had never gone on those trips with my kids, and for some reason, my mother had never been inside either. So it was a great 1 1/2 hours for us all.
The two women volunteering were pretty impressed to hear that we were doing it for Becky's Humanitarian class.
Yes, cake is comfort food here, too. Homemade cake. If I want chocolate it has to be Coca Cola cake. But white cake is my favorite.
I saw Lady Gaga's dress and red gloves! I got phone calls and didn't watch the show but have it dvr'd so I can watch later. I did see J.K. Simmons wonderful speech about his family and telling his kids and everyone to "call your mother."
Have a good starting day, Rounders!

                          Good morning all!

We didn't watch the Oscars either. Don't care for that sort of thing. We watched a DVD of "The Great Escape". Old movie but very good.

I would say carrot cake would be my comfort food.

Patty and I went over to Bims and we made a list of what to take and what not to take. We will go over this afternoon after he gets off work and Patty will work on trying to clean the upholstery on his chair and I shall try to make his 55 year old dresser and desk look better. Well made but old looking. Going to try Liquid Gold on them. We had a lovely dinner at Olive Garden yesterday and Bim came home with lots of leftovers from Patty and myself.

                          Have a good day all!

Jo, I think Mother Nature is just plain ole mean! I suppose my weather is normal winter weather for Illinois. Cold, snow, more cold but I just hate any type of winter weather. I am so glad that I don't live on the east coast but sure wish I DID live in the tropics! Some morning soon I will get out of bed and slip on my flippies and not 2 pair of socks!
