Back when folks traveled by horse, they'd go to church on Sunday, ride to the county seat on Monday and vote on Tuesday, so they would be home Wednesday for market day. November was ideal because it fell between the harvest season and winter.

According to FairVote, approximately 60 percent of eligible adults in the United States vote in presidential-election years, and about 40 percent in midterm (such as this year).
3. When was the right to vote granted to all U.S. Citizens?
For African-American men, it was 1870; for American women, 1920. New Zealand was the First Nation to give women the right to vote, in 1893. In Switzerland, women couldn't vote until 1971.
