Our newspaper put an article out several months ago about sending cell phone alerts to warn of fire and rescue, ambulances, and safety vehicles approaching traffic lights to free up road space so they could get through faster. Your cell phone would send an alarm so you could get out of the way.
I have not heard if they are going to implement this alarm system, but wait, what about the folks who don't have cell phones? What if the alarm is so distracting that it causes people to have an accident? I think a better system would be to have the traffic lights to show a certain color or alarm. That would get everybody's attention and be safer.
