  • Question for our Chefs and Cooks.

    Culinary!

Do you prefer to pronounce it with the "Long" u sound, or the "Short" u sound?

    Q-linary, or cul-inary?

I think the short U sounds more correct.
The Q sound "feels" a bit much to me.
But who am I to say? I'm hardly a chef.

Joy used to yell at me when I said Q so now I don't but it doesn't feel right.

That's kind of funny. We checked in different dictionaries, and some put Q first, some put the other first.
So that suggests that both are acceptable. I've heard it said both ways many times.
I think chefs prefer the Q one. Or used to. But the other rolls off my tongue more naturally.
